About the Redheaded Seamstress

Who is the RedheadedSeamstress?

Hi! I’m Mary Meyer.

What you need to know about me

I LOVE COSTUMES!
I sew stuff, build stuff, and admire stuff that other people sew and build. Costumes have been my passion since childhood and I have pursued that passion throughout my life (including a college education on the subject).

Starting at a very young age (sometime after the fifth grade) I met an amazing woman who introduced me to costume design and became my mentor. She introduced me to pattern making, sewing, and designing for Shakespeare. I next found a dressmaking school in my area (basically an elderly lady, who had studies at Parson’s, set up a sewing studio in her garage and taught girls to sew) that taught me even more design and building skills. Then I moved off to Utah Valley University and Brigham Young University to study….you guessed it…costume design with the greats!

Now that I’m a full time wife and mother, I find a great deal of fun (and sanity) in constructing costumes for myself, friends, and family. I love the costume journey!
